KEYNOTE ADDRESS:
FORMER PREMIER OF BRITISH COLUMBIA, MAYOR OF VANCOUVER
AND CITY COUNCILLOR AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF QUEST:
MIKE HARCOURT
In 1993 Al Gore applauded Premier Harcourt for permanently preserving the jointly
shared ecosystem of the Tatshenshini River and Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park in
Northwest BC.
Decisions we take today about land use in our cities and their energy, transportation, water and waste management infrastructures will have consequences in decades to come. How can we integrate these infrastructures and systems to address energy end-use and significantly reduce emissions?
How can we meet the long-term climate change objectives that involve greenhouse gas (GHGs) emission reductions of 60 percent or more by 2050. This will require a fundamental transformation of how we produce, deliver and use energy.
An integrated, community-based approach is the best way to address energy end-use and reduce green house gas emissions.
