Women4Women -W4W is a not-for-profit organization to support disadvantaged women in Surrey. Our first initiative of the organization is to support the Somali /African Community in the Strawberry Hill area. These women are from a refugee background, and have, by and large, been in Canada for some time. To date, they have not been successful in gaining employment, but they are willing and eager to work. Most of them are single women with fairly large families; their kids are enrolled in our schools. Our mandate is to build connections between disadvantaged women in Surrey with women from a diverse range of backgrounds; business, education, and/or self-employed. We seek to make connections with these women and to assist other women to develop their unique skills and reach their potential. PLEASE SAVE THE DATE: On Saturday, Nov 5th we are hosting a night of song, food, culture and community building as a fundraiser to support the women with potential business ventures. We are starting small, by selling samosa, chai and a light dinner, cooked by the Somali women and to hear their stories. The proceeds will support purchasing of equipment or craft items for future sales in a variety of ventures. The idea is not to raise money to give them, but rather highlight their skills that evening and connect them to local people who are in our community.
