October 3, 2019 - Lunch with SFU President Andrew Petter
Surrey and SFU: Building the Future - Together
Surrey and SFU have a transformative impact upon each other and this, in turn, has had a transformative impact upon Metro Vancouver. When SFU established its Surrey campus in 2002, the goal was to help meet rising demand for post-secondary spaces south of the Fraser and to enrich the area with the presence of a research university. But only a true visionary (in this case, the late architect Bing Thom) could have foreseen the potential for the campus to be a catalyst for the creation of Surrey City Centre as a second metropolitan hub for the region. And few would have predicted the simultaneous benefit to SFU, which has gained knowledge, energy and value from its Surrey connections.
In his final address to the Surrey Board of Trade before his term ends next August, SFU President Andrew Petter will discuss the evolution of the Surrey-SFU relationship and what it holds for the future of the university and the community.
