Event Description:

Surrey is home to many wood manufacturing companies that are significant employers, such as Teal-Jones, S&R Sawmills, Pacific Lumber, Catalyst Paper, Key West and Riverside to name but a few. Immediate attention and action must be given to this industry given recent and ongoing challenges related to protests, softwood lumber tariffs, taxation and more.

Harvesting of timber in BC generates over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs, including thousands in Surrey. A well-managed and sustainable forestry industry will be around for as long as people use wood and paper products. It’s the ultimate renewable industry.

Learn more from the author of Forestry in BC: Setting the record straight, Stewart Muir of Resource Works, along with a panel to discuss BC's forestry industry.  Inaccurate or incomplete data is getting in the way of genuine dialogue and targeting local businesses.

  • Stewart Muir, Executive Director, Resource Works
  • Alexa Young, Vice President, Government & Public Affairs, Council of Forest Industries
  • Jack Gardner, Log Purchaser and great-grandson of company founder, Teal-Jones Group
