BC is home to over 150 companies developing and producing world-class agriculture technology, and Surrey is poised to become a hub for agritech and innovation in the province.
On July 16th, Lana Popham, BC's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, joins the Surrey Board of Trade to discuss agritech investments, the Agricultural Land Reserve and the impact of the SkyTrain extension, and the future of farming in Surrey and BC. This is an opportunity to ask the Minister your questions.
Lana became politically active in 2007 when the economic viability of over 90 food producers in Saanich was threatened by increased property taxes. She served on Saanich?s Planning, Transportation and Economic Development Committee and the Peninsula Agricultural Commission. She was also president of the Vancouver Island Grape Growers Association, chair of the Certification Committee for the Islands Organic Producers Association, and a member of the Investment Agriculture Board.
After being elected in 2009, Lana served as Opposition Spokesperson for agriculture for eight years. She obtained her degree in geography at the University of British Columbia.
