Flame of Hope Golf Tournament in Memory of John Bowles
The Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) is excited to host our first annual Flame of Hope Golf Tournament in Memory of John Bowles on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the beautiful Meadow Gardens Golf Club in Pitt Meadows. All funds raised will support diabetes research in British Columbia. The day on the greens will include a full round of golf with a number of contests to test your skills followed by a dinner buffet prepared by the Meadow Gardens Golf Club’s culinary team. We’ll also have an array of live and silent auction items, a 50/50 draw and more. For many years, John Bowles was an active volunteer with the CDA, including serving as National President from 1982-1984. John was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013 for his dedication and service to the CDA and those living with diabetes. The tournament itself is named after the Flame of Hope that burns at Banting House National Historic Site of Canada in London, Ont. While it is a symbol of hope, it is also a reminder that insulin is only a control for diabetes, not a cure. Only when that cure is at last found, will the Flame of Hope be extinguished. Diabetes research was one of John’s areas of interest at the CDA.
