Overcoming Obstacles in Leadership
Throughout his life, Angus Reid found success and achievement by overcoming the many obstacles in his path.

His challenges included being cut from his first professional football team, injuries and health issues. As a professional athlete, his competitive nature also led him to chase losses at the casino which resulted in a gambling problem. Having overcome this issue, Angus is now a strong advocate of the responsible gambling message.

Drawing on his own life events, he outlines three key lessons learned growing up which enabled him to confront challenges and fulfill his professional dreams and aspirations. See his bio below.

About Angus Reid:
Angus Reid found a way to make his dream a reality. He recently retired from professional football after 13 years spent with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. The Richmond, B.C. native played in 200 professional games, placing him in the Top 5 all time for games played by a BC Lion.

Throughout his career Angus has been a three-time all-star, two-time Grey Cup Champion and eight-time team captain.

Angus was considered a long shot to make it pro; he was too small, way too short and he didn’t begin playing football until the eleventh grade. He missed three of his five collegiate seasons with a severe stomach ailment, making it back for his senior season and becoming only the fifth All American in school history.

Angus was selected fourth overall in the 2001 CFL college draft by the Toronto Argonauts only to be cut by them following his first training camp.

It has been through sheer determination and relentlessness that Angus was able to not only fulfill his impossible dream, but to also perform longer than nearly every other player.

Angus has become much more than a football star; he is a true fixture in the community. Outside of a successful business in Commercial Insurance, Angus his written weekly newspaper columns for the Vancouver Province, hosts a radio show on the team 1040 and is host of Global TV's "CrimeStoppers" and "The Monday Morning Blitz" show.
