Creating a Welcoming & Inclusive Workplace

HR Solutions for Immigrant Talent Series

Creating a Welcoming & Inclusive Workplace: A free workshop for Business Owners, Managers & Supervisors

Research has shown that a workplace that is culturally diverse and inclusive has a direct and powerful effect on new immigrant employees’ work performance and commitment to the organization, both of which in turn contribute to the bottom line of your organization’s success. One of the biggest challenges that new immigrant employees face is adjusting to new working environments, many of which are drastically different from their experiences back home. Many talented immigrant employees often report feeling a sense of ‘culture shock’ upon entering workplaces that are not welcoming and, as a result, underperform or leave the organization entirely. How do you ensure that your workplace is welcoming of new immigrant employees hailing from different cultures? And how do you promote cultural diversity among your employees? This workshop will explore ways to ensure that talented immigrant employees feel welcomed and supported, help you increase retention and improve team performance.

Workshop participants will explore:

  • Understanding cultural awareness vs. cultural competence
  • The five levels of cultural competence
  • Differences between nationality, ethnicity, and culture
  • Strategies to overcome barriers to effective cross-cultural communication
  • Strategies for managing conflicts in an inclusive manner
  • Strategies to promote a culture of diversity and inclusivity
  • A self-assessment to determine how culturally inclusive your workplace is
  • HR Solutions Employer Toolkit of Resources - tools and resources for recruiting, hiring, integrating and retaining talented immigrant job seekers
